She owned and operated Porter’s Gift Shop for seven years on her own. She was able to define a successful niche during Florence’s transition to more “big-box” stores. She sold Porter’s to move to Washington with her husband, Sandy.
When Angelyn and Sandy moved back to Florence she volunteered at St. John’s Episcopal Church. “By the grace of God” and with her experience she earned the top lay position of Senior Warden. She is one of two women since 1866 to hold the position. St. John’s was without a Rector for six months during her tenure. She “did everything but preach” and the Church continued to prosper.
